The Altham is now complete and has welcomed it’s first residents

Lichen Studio are proud to be #LandscapeArchitects on #TheAltham – a 321-home #coliving project in the London Borough of Waltham Forest, delivered for Morro / Scape

Sitting opposite Blackhorse Road station, the site carried all the complexity to be expected of a constrained urban location – tight spatial constraints, highways interfaces, planning conditions, phased construction logistics, and compliance requirements that shaped every design decision.

But the resident experience was always our focus. Alongside the shared amenities, music venue and active public realm, the series of roof gardens animate this building.

Designing extensive green space into a co-living building means more than regulatory compliance. It requires an understanding of how people actually use the space. How they unwind after a long commute. Where they will sit in the morning sun, or find shade under a tree in the afternoon. Somewhere genuinely beautiful to let life quietly play out.

In a borough that buzzes with energy, we wanted the roof gardens to feel like a genuine exhale – a green respite designed with care, detail, and real attention to the lives being lived there.
