Chippenham Riverside
Lichen Studio worked with Acorn Property Group, HNW Architects and Lambert Smith Hampton to develop the landscape masterplan & planning application for Chippenham Riverside.
The project represents a once in a generation opportunity to transform the site into a vibrant, sustainable town centre destination. It involves the comprehensive regeneration of Emery Gate Shopping Centre & surrounding land in the heart of Chippenham’s historic town centre.
The landscape proposals will extend Chippenham’s public spaces by blending the natural landscape of Island Park to the north, with the urban environment of the Town Centre to the south.
The masterplan has been developed with the vision of promoting Community, Wellbeing & Biodiversity. Key landscape objectives underpin the overarching design vision and set out what the landscape masterplan aims to achieve; Permeability, Integration, Placemaking, Sustainability & Heritage.
The masterplan features a series of squares, courtyards and gardens creating vibrant spaces where community life and local ecology can thrive together.
The masterplan includes the following outcomes.
- 225 new homes over 8 buildings.
- 17 commercial units, providing 40,000 sq ft of commercial floorspace for retail, community and leisure uses
- Strengthened pedestrian & cycle routes between The High Street and Island Park, increasing permeability through the site.
- New green infrastructure links from the town centre into Island Park & the River Avon corridor.
- 144 new trees & specimen shrubs.
- 300% Biodiversity Net Gain.
- High quality proposed public open spaces, accessible for all users.
- Communal & private gardens for residents.
