Cow Down Barn
Lichen Studio were commissioned in partnership with PAD Studio by a private client to develop a garden design which provides context to their new home, a pre-fabricated Huf Haus.
The site is adjacent to an existing hazel coppice woodland and overlooks arable fields to the south. The landscape brief was to create a simple, sustainable design that better integrates the house on the site and provides a series of different spaces to the garden and responds to the context; a Site of Importance for Nature Conservation (SINC).
Taking inspiration from the local materials founds on site such as hazel coppice & flint, we proposed a design which is of its place. Sculpted earthwork terraces create a sense of rhythm and movement in the garden through the introduction of organic forms. A variety of proposed planting typologies complements existing features such as mature beech and orchard trees.
