Established in 2021 by Abi & Ed Gant, Lichen Studio offers over 20 years of combined experience in Landscape Architecture and Design. We have worked for both large multi-disciplinary practices and small boutique studios. We offer a calm, friendly & rigorous design service to our clients.
Lichen Studio is a Landscape Institute Registered Practice and members of the team are Chartered Members of the Landscape Institute (CMLI).
Abi Gant - MLA CMLI
Creative Director
Abi is a chartered landscape architect and a founding director of Lichen Studio. With 11 years experience working in London for some of the industries top design-led practices, her experience ranges from small scale garden design, public realm, podium roof terraces to large-scale urban regeneration and masterplanning across the UK and overseas.
Originally from the Brecon Beacons Abi grew up surrounded by mountains, woodland, lakes and rivers. Inspired by this landscape, she is passionate, creative and has a keen interest in natural systems and sustainable water management. She believes that good design can have a positive impact on the climate and create spaces that are unique, memorable and timeless. She is most fulfilled when able to utilise her knowledge and skillset working collaboratively with clients and design teams to deliver projects that contribute to people’s health, happiness and wellbeing while addressing key challenges through innovative approaches.
Her skills lie within the design process where she brings imagination and creative thinking underpinned by an innovative yet pragmatic approach. Her role as Creative Director ensures all projects within the practice undergo a rigorous design review process ensuring high-quality landscapes that are in line with the Studio’s design philosophy.
She founded Lichen Studio with the belief that Landscape Architecture has the power to change the world, one project at a time.
Ed Gant – MLA CMLI
Managing Director
Ed is a chartered landscape architect and a founding director of Lichen Studio. He is a creative designer, passionate about integrating green infrastructure into the built environment and engaging people with landscape and nature.
Originally from Jersey, Ed grew up exploring the coast and beaches of the Channel Islands with a deep appreciation of the environment.
After graduating from the University of Lancaster, Ed spent 4 years working in The City of London, before retraining as a landscape architect at Greenwich University.
With over 11 years of industry experience, Ed has worked on a range of projects, from public realm and urban regeneration to residential and commercial developments, across the UK and abroad.
Passionate about environmental and social impact, Ed believes in creating landscapes that enhance nature and the health & well-being of the communities they serve.
Ed has strong design narrative and communication skills, and collaborates with clients, design professionals, and end-users to deliver successful schemes, with a strong sense of place.
Ed founded Lichen Studio with the aim to re-establish the human bond with the natural world.
