Cathedral Square

Lichen Studio were appointed by Space & Solutions to deliver the public realm of Building 3000 at Cathedral Square, a commercial office development located to the North-East of Guildford town centre.

With a design team led by Spratley & Partners the building underwent a complete fit-out and enhancement to the external appearance.

The previous external space was dominated by car parking. The landscape proposals mitigate this issue by reconfiguring vehicle access and parking, to create a pedestrian priority environment and public square outside Building 3000.

The external area has now become a flexible public space, establishing a focal point for social gatherings, events, dining and exercise. Urban Greening and biodiversity enhancement is created through the introduction of street trees, ornamental planting & creation of wildflower meadows for wildlife habitat. Health and wellbeing are key outcomes of the development, which uses Biophilic Design to provide better access to nature within the workplace.

The project was shortlisted for the British Council for Offices Regional Awards 2024. The Awards Programme provides public recognition for top-quality design and functionality and a benchmark for excellence in workplaces.
